The Premier League is back and first up are Crystal Palace and Arsenal who square off on Friday night. Arsenal have looked were in good shape in the pre-season, with that being said they have had a very difficult time against Crystal Palace in recent years at Selhurst Park. It will be an interesting opening game this year. Read on for the full prediction to the starter game of this Premier League season.
Arsenal have signed many good players
After last season’s collapse at the end of the season when Arsenal lost fourth place to Tottenham, Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu have gone hard in the transfer window. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus have been brought in from Manchester City, Fabio Viera was bought for big money from Porto and, in addition, William Saliba has returned after a very positive loan at Sevilla. A young Brazilian in Marquinhos has also joined the squad. According to Arteta, Arsenal will try to sign one or a few more players if they manage to find something that fits the squad.
The new players have performed well in pre-season
It didn’t take Gabriel Jesus many minutes to score in his debut game for Arsenal and he has been netting goals in pre-season. However, you have to remember that it is the pre-season, so perhaps you shouldn’t put too much emphasis on the fact that it looked good there, although the team feels significantly better and football is played at a much higher pace than before. Zinchenko has also looked good and William Saliba has looked like a real back giant in defence.
Crystal Palace with pre-season problems
Several Crystal Palace players had to stay at home while they were out on pre-season tours in Australia and Asia. The reason behind that is not entirely clear, whether it is a matter of a visa or a vaccination certificate seems the most reasonable. Both Eze and Zaha stayed in south London when the rest of the team went and played training matches, which is of course not optimal. Patrick Viera was quite cryptic when asked why they weren’t on the tour and could only bemoan the fact that the team couldn’t play together and get the game together the way they otherwise could.
Crystal Palace have found the right tactics to punish Arsenal
In recent seasons, Crystal Palace have been a nightmare opponent for Arsenal. They have found a way to play that Arsenal have not been able to manage. Arsenal were lucky to get a point in last season’s home game and away from home they didn’t stand a chance against a high pressing and efficient Crystal Palace.
Arsenal should have the upper hand after all
When we look at how the match in question will go, however, we believe that with the new signings Arsenal have made, they will be the better team, for sure. And unless Crystal Palace play a perfect game tactically, Arsenal should win this. The problem in recent years with Arsenal is that they haven’t had the continuity required in the Premier League, so even if they play very well one game, they can completely lose the game in the next. Crystal Palace on the other hand rarely have a bad game, sure they are a smaller team and lose more often but they work hard and have players who can punish all the best teams.
