So it’s finally confirmed, Leeds United are back in the Premier League after a long 16-year stint in the lower tiers of English Football. After coming painfully close last season, missing out on automation promotion and then losing the play-off final on aggregate, this years campaign is a real comeback story and a testament to their attitude.
Dubbed as being ‘back where they belong’, Leeds United have long been considered a club worthy of the Premier League status, and the 2020/2021 season is going to be very interesting for fans and neutrals alike. With tougher opposition comes harder games, and so it’s never been so important for the Yorkshire team to buy well in the transfer market. We’ve taken a look at the rumoured targets and what they can bring to the Premier League campaign.
The Race for a New Number 1
Leeds United are strongly linked with Claudio Bravo from Manchester City. The Chilean is out of contract at the end of this season, and is very unlikely to ever replace Edison as Pep’s number one goalkeeper, so it is easy to see why he would be tempted to move to Leeds with a starting number 1 spot up for grabs.
The exceptionally well-experienced goalkeeper has played few minutes in the Premier League for City, but has helped the team through many of their cup games. With such an impressive CV, it’s likely that there will be a few clubs interested in Bravo, so Leeds will have to be quick with their negotiations.
Impressive Midfield Target
There’s plenty of rumours going around about Leeds interest in Mauricio Isla, also a player for the Chilean International Team. He currently plays for Turkish Side, Fenerbache, but will be a free agent in a matter of weeks.
Competition is hot for the midfielder though, with Real Sociedad showing a keen interest. So will it be Spain or Yorkshire? Only time will tell, but he could be a key influence.
