Maria Sharapova and Federer in US Open 2017

US Open Federer 300x241Maria Sharapova won in the comeback after two months of injuries. Russia needed three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-0) to overcome US Jennifer Brady in the first round in Stanford, USA.

“My first match in the United States for a very long time, and that’s the closest I get home,” said the Russian tennis star, who mostly grew up in the United States.

Sharapova was suspended for 15 months after being tested positive. This spring she was back on tour after a suspension but got injured in May.

The 30-year-old has dropped to 171st place on the world rankings but got a wildcard to Stanford. She was denied an invitation to the French championships earlier this year, and Wimbledon never became involved due to injury. This year’s last grand slam tournament US Open is played August 28th-September 10th. A participation there hangs if she gets a wild card, once again.

Us Open is around the corner with many exciting matchups. Can Federer take it again and win his 20th Grand Slam?

The odds are rather high, 3.55 to the Roger, who would then collect his 6th title at Flushing Meadows. Next favorite is, of course, Nadal at 5.00 and Djokovic at 6.20.
